Writing & Journalling Classes and Workshops

Writing is how I understand myself and the world.

It is my passion – an outlet for my creativity and something I just cannot stop doing. Poetry runs through my head simultaneously with the shower stream, new characters arise from each real-life interaction, and dreams evolve new spaces, places and situations.

I love helping writers find their voice and their confidence by developing their own unique style. To me, writing is simply moulding sentences – like clay, into pieces that paint a picture, elicit emotions, engage, educate, or simply amuse. Poetry is the most malleable, allowing structure and form, or none at all and it is my favourite to teach and write.

My workshops and mentoring sessions focus on the enjoyment of writing, helping you find joy and pride in your ability, no matter where you are in your writing journey. There is no pressure, only acceptance of you and your desire to put pen to paper and to help you make those words say what you want them to say in a way that feels right to you.

Writing your thoughts and ideas onto paper, especially if you use pen (or pencil) and paper, helps you untangle them, organise, process them and can clear a bit of space for new thoughts and ideas to germinate.

My journalling workshops are a fun time for you to experience a number of different journalling styles and methods, in a safe and supportive space, with the opportunity to share (or not) your writing with the group.

I also encourage journalling when looking at your health and wellbeing and will recommend personalised writing prompts to help you.

Creative Writing Course

Undertaking the Creative Writing course run by Diny gave me the ability and confidence to put down on paper the stories and words that I had never been able to bring to life. It enabled me to write two books and I continue to write with so much pleasure now my creative talent has been ignited. I will always be grateful to Diny for enabling me to achieve a lifelong ambition.

Mentoring

I have known Diny for a few years now, she first came to my rescue after I had finished my first novel. Diny's help was amazing and she taught me so much about writing, phrasing punctuation and general good writing skills. She is a fountain of knowledge and expertise. I probably wouldn't have got published without Diny let alone have my short stories aired on the radio. Thank you Diny for all your help.

Group Mentoring

Diny was introduced to our creative writing group by a member who'd previously worked with her to self-publish a book.  Diny was embraced as our mentor and source of steadiness and inspiration, helping us find our way as we crafted our work and gained confidence. She gave us helpful writing exercises from a book she's written, such as example creating the back story to a larger piece of work, to show details of its origins and the character's history. We faced the challenge of creating flash fiction and setting rhyming schemes in a rondeau, using the pattern followed by John McCraely,  'In Flanders Fields'. Diny is conscientious and pays careful attention to detail, coherence and flow. Thank you so much Diny, you have helped Ladies Wot Write meet our goal of becoming independently published.
